Project Overview:

This project has aim to develop character of students from the beginning (or simply, started from elementary school). Based on experts report, children can demonstrate signs of empathy as young as 6 months old. Also, a young child’s brain forms up to 700 new neural connections every second. Brought by this report, I try to connect the links between the future of Earth which is always be part of human race, and what can the society do to save the world, and save the future. And I found that children (or the next generation) is the key.

I tried to create some fun curriculum to save the world with targeted community (in this part) is an elementary student or between 5–13 years old. This curriculum has a focus at least 3 points:

  1. Develop character building that care about their surrounding area (environment, society, etc.)
  2. Understanding the composition of the Earth. (it will be answered later on the next tier of the Project-Based Learning, with why we should care about the earth, environment, and climate change).
  3. Develop character as a leader of the future.

As disclaimer, this curriculum, or Project-Based Learning, was designed to have another part. and this is the 1st beginning of the curriculum.

Record the notes/research:

This activity requires collaboration between young generation and children in elementary school. The youth has role to become supervisors for all of the children which involved in this program activity. The youth require to split all of students (children) into some groups and all of them require to guide all of children in elementary school to fulfill all of the tasks as explained above.

In the end of the program (the next 30 days), the report that has been done by the student will be collected and reviewed by the supervisor and team leader one by one. Also, collecting notes from the supervisor during the program/activity. Lastly, after the whole process and tasks was reviewed, all of student and supervisor’s work, should be documented in the big frame photos-portfolios, and put them in memorable places.

Outline the steps/plan for your project:

After the students complete all tasks, observations, and daily reports. The student is projected to understand the whole process of planting, and their awareness of climate change through-put the rubbish in the right place. Here is the highlight of the whole process in a basic — project-based learning curriculum:

  • Encourage them to do planting with soil, water, and plants.
  • The student is involved in the planting process.
  • The supervisor explaining them, the need to plant while the student finished their planting activities.
  • The student requires to collect un-organic rubbish into their pocket. Other things, the student also requires to collect dry leaves in a trash bag within the time limit.
  • The supervisor explains to the student, the urgency to keep clean and gives a reward to the most active student.

The completion of this project will continue to the 2nd tier of this project-based learning (#2 Intermediate — Project-Based Learning).
